We are deeply saddened to share the news that Ali Jamal, founder of First Check Ventures, has passed away.
Ali was a passionate supporter of startups, especially in Latin America. Through First Check Ventures, he invested in over 130 early-stage companies across more than 30 countries. His goal was to help new entrepreneurs get the funding and support they needed at the very beginning of their journey.
Before becoming an investor, Ali worked in product and growth roles at well-known companies like Rappi, Clip, Agoda, and Zynga. His experience helped him understand what it takes to build a successful company, and he used that knowledge to guide and mentor countless founders.
Ali wasn’t just an investor he was known for being kind, generous with his time, and always ready to help. Many people in the startup world remember him not just for the opportunities he created, but also for the way he made them feel seen and supported.
His passing is a huge loss to the startup community. He believed in people when few others did and made a lasting impact on many lives.
Ali Jamal will be remembered not only for what he built, but for who he was.
May he rest in peace.
