Theatre lovers around the world are mourning the loss of Vincent O’Neill, a well-known Irish actor, director, and teacher. He passed away on June 17, 2025, in Buffalo, New York.
Born in Dublin, Vincent was deeply involved in the arts for most of his life. He was one of the founders of the Irish Classical Theatre Company in Buffalo and served as its Artistic Director for many years. He also taught theatre at the University at Buffalo, where he inspired many students with his passion and knowledge.
Vincent was known for bringing Irish plays and stories to life. One of his most famous performances was “Joyicity,” a one-man show based on the writings of James Joyce, which he performed around the world.
His work wasn’t limited to acting. He studied mime in Paris under the legendary Marcel Marceau, and he used that training in many of his performances. Vincent believed in the power of theatre to connect people and share culture and he did just that throughout his life.
Over the years, he received many honors, including being named Irishman of the Year and getting a star on Buffalo’s Walk of Fame. But beyond awards, Vincent will be remembered most for his kindness, his passion for storytelling, and his deep love for Irish culture.
Vincent O’Neill’s passing is a huge loss for the arts community. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire actors, directors, students, and theatre-goers for years to come.
