Dakota Briley Car Accident – Prayers for Dakota Briley Northshore Community

A serious crash along Kamehameha Highway on Sunday afternoon has left a 20-year-old North Shore resident in critical condition, according to Honolulu police.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:31 p.m. when a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old male traveling westbound crossed into the eastbound lane near Haleiwa and veered onto the shoulder. The vehicle struck a traffic sign and then hit a pedestrian who had been standing next to an unoccupied parked vehicle on the shoulder of the highway.

The pedestrian, later confirmed to be a member of the Briley and Chapman family who are well known and deeply respected in the North Shore community, was pinned between the two vehicles. Emergency personnel responded quickly, and the young man was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

The driver and his 18-year-old female passenger were not injured, authorities said.

The Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division and Vehicular Homicide Section are actively investigating the crash. At this time, speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors, but a full investigation is ongoing.

Out of respect for the family, many in the community are choosing to honor the family’s privacy during this difficult time. Dakota’s father, Shawn, and mother, Natasha, are known throughout the North Shore for raising three well-loved and respected sons.

As the community rallies around the Briley and Chapman families, support and prayers continue to pour in for Dakota’s recovery.
